HISHAM WAITS, SAMSURI GETS READY – INCOMING AGONG, SULTAN IBRAHIM MAKES IT CLEAR HIS PRIORITY TO PROTECT MALAYSIA’S 33 MILLION CITIZENS – NOT ITS 222 ‘SPOILT-BRAT’ MPs

KUALA LUMPUR (Politics Now!) – Incoming King, Sultan Ibrahim of Johor has made it clear his overriding priority will be to protect the interest of Malaysia’s 33 million citizens, and not the 222 Members of Parliament who have often made a laughing stock of the nation with their political antics and shenanigans to gain power.

“I feel that the country today has been infected by a virus, which is the virus of division,” said Sultan Ibrahim on the occasion of his 65th birthday.

“This virus stems from political leaders who are willing to quarrel, insult, spread slander, and break the unity of the people in pursuit of power and personal interests.”

The very popular Sultan Ibrahim is due to take over as Agong (King) on Jan 31, 2024 from the equally popular Pahang Sultan Abdullah.

DUMPING ANWAR

Umno’s Hishammuddin rumored to have at least 10 MPs willing to cross sides together with him

Johor crown prince Tengku Ismail has previously said his father’s reign will see “interesting times” and that his father wanted to “restore order”. Tengku Ismail had also described ineffective Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim as “indecisive”, saying he lacked a strong team.

The comments have raised eyebrows and bolstered talk that the opposition might mount a move to oust Anwar once a new King was in place.

Anwar’s Pakatan Harapan coalition had won 82 seats in last year’s general election but failed to gain the simple majority needed to rule the country. Nevertheless, with the help of King Abdullah, he managed to cobble together a unity government that includes old foes Umno-BN, GPS and GRS.

HISHAM WAITS, SAMSURI GETS READY

Pas’ Samsuri Mokhtar gets ready for the first step, winning a seat in the federal Parliament at Kemaman by-election

However, after completing just a year as the new government, rumblings of discontent have risen within Anwar’s ‘Madani’ government and there is now talk that Umno-BN, GPS and GRS are ready to realign themselves with the main opposition bloc PN, which contains Pas the biggest and most influential political party in the country.

Among PM candidates most likely to replace Anwar should the ouster succeed are Umno’s Hishammuddin Hussein and Pas’ Samsuri Mokhtar, the likeable chief minister of Terengganu.

Hishammuddin is the MP of Sembrong in Johor, while Samsuri will know if he can make the PM cut on Dec 2, which is when the Kemaman by-election will be balloted. If Samsuri wins the federal seat, it will open the first door for him to achieve the country’s most powerful post, which would also be a first for his Pas party.
