AS RINGGIT CRUMBLES, ANWAR TO MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT SOON – HIS DEPUTY AHMAD MASLAN CLAIMS MALAYSIA HAS MORE THAN RM1 TRILLION IN ASSETS – ‘HOPES THE ASSETS WILL BE VALUED AT MORE THAN THE COUNTRY’S RM1.5 TRILLION NATIONAL DEBT’

PM to speak on state of ringgit soon, says Ahmad Maslan

JOHOR BARU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to make an announcement soon regarding the country’s current financial situation and the shrinking value of the ringgit, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

The Deputy Finance Minister said Anwar – who is also the Finance Minister – will be attending an event at the Securities Commission at noon on Monday (June 19), where he is slated to speak.

Ahmad was asked to comment on the decline of the ringgit against the US dollar and whether or not the government was considering measures to address the situation.

“The PM will be attending the programme after the swearing-in of the new Dewan Negara president.

“I leave it to him to speak about policy matters,” he said after visiting Bank Simpanan Nasional at Wisma BSN here on Sunday (June 18).

Ahmad added that the government is currently updating information related to the Rahmah Cash Aid for B40 recipients before the funds are disbursed by the Hari Raya Haji celebrations.

He said a total of RM2.14bil would be distributed to about 8.4 million recipients.  ANN

Federal govt has more than RM1 trillion in assets, says Ahmad Maslan

JOHOR BARU: The Federal government’s assets have been estimated to be worth more than RM1 trillion, says Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

He said that the final figure is higher as the calculations are still ongoing, adding that the Accountant-General’s Department and the Valuation and Property Management Department have been evaluating the assets thoroughly since 2013.

“The figure only encompasses about half of the assets that the Federal government owns as the evaluation is still ongoing,” said Ahmad.

“we do not know how long more will be needed to get the final figure but it will be sped up so that we will know the total value of our assets,” he added.

He said this in a press conference after visiting the Johor Valuation and Property Management Department (JPPH) here on Sunday (June 2).

Ahmad added that the more than RM1 trillion figure does not include assets owned by the Federal government abroad, which have yet to be assessed.

“There are many assets that have yet to be assessed, including our assets overseas. There are also assets in the form of plants and machinery that have yet to be assessed.

“I believe the final figure will be a lot higher once the process has been completed,” he said.

He also expressed his hopes that the assets will be valued at more than the country’s RM1.5 trillion national debt.  ANN
