NOT ONLY ‘BIAWAK HIDUP’ BUT ALSO SOUR GRAPES TOO – ZAHID WARNS MCA & MIC, QUASHES THEIR MISCHIEVOUS ‘BOYCOTT’ STATE ELECTIONS CALL – ‘WE SHOULD NOT ENTERTAIN THESE INDIVIDUAL OPINIONS… SUCH STATEMENTS ARE NOT ENDORSED BY BN’

Zahid quashes boycott talk

PETALING JAYA: Any statements from Barisan Nasional component party officials about boycotting the impending six state elections are only personal remarks which do not reflect the coalition’s stand, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Barisan chairman said with the elections looming, it was a critical time and unnecessary issues should not be brought up now.

“Such statements are not endorsed by Barisan. For parties within Barisan, we feel we should not entertain (these) individual opinions as it would give the perception that we are (disunited).

“I am thankful that all component parties support Barisan-Pakatan Harapan in the state elections, which we will face together,” he said after launching the 23rd Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy Associates Asia Pacific Retraining Conference yesterday.

Ahmad Zahid was commenting on a call by an MCA Youth leader who had urged the party to boycott the coming state elections.

In his call, MCA Youth secretary-general Daniel Wa said MCA should not help any Barisan candidates “who became arrogant after Barisan forged cooperation with the DAP” in the unity government.

Wa was referring to Umno supreme council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam, who had accused the two parties of being “biawak hidup” (living monitor lizards or those who have become a problem to others) for their failure to secure votes for Barisan.

Lokman made the accusations during an interview with a news portal recently.

MCA and MIC slammed Lokman and reminded him of the loyalty of the two parties to the coalition since the early days.

Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu are due to hold elections soon.

Ahmad Zahid, who is Deputy Prime Minister, said for now, the cooperation between Barisan and Pakatan was good.

“We always hold to the official stand of the leadership of Barisan component parties and parties in Pakatan,” he said.
