Salahuddin’s passing a loss to the nation, says PAS

Party that was home to the late minister for more than 30 years pays its respects.

Salahuddin Ayub was with PAS from 1983 until 2015, when he left to co-found Amanah with Mohamad Sabu.

PETALING JAYA: The death of domestic trade and cost of living minister Salahuddin Ayub today is a loss for the country, PAS said.

“Despite our political differences, his deeds and contributions to the party (PAS) will always be remembered,” it said in a tweet. “May God forgive (him) and bless the soul of Allahyarham Salahuddin Ayub.”

Salahuddin was with PAS from 1983 until 2015. He left the party to co-found Amanah with Mohamad Sabu.

He died at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar at 9.23pm after undergoing surgery for a brain haemorrhage on Friday. He was 61.

MCA president and Ayer Hitam MP Wee Ka Siong said Salahuddin’s death was a loss to Johor.

“His service to the community and the country will be remembered forever. May his soul rest in peace,” Wee said in a Facebook post.

Communications and digital minister Fahmi Fadzil said in a tweet that he was saddened by the death of his Cabinet colleague.

Deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi described Salahuddin as a humble man who was dedicated and committed to exercising his ministerial duties.

The Barisan Nasional chairman said Salahuddin had always thought about the rakyat’s welfare.

“The country has lost a great leader. Let us pray that Allah bless his soul and provide strength to his family for their loss,” he said in a Facebook post.

Selangor caretaker menteri besar Amirudin Shari said Salahuddin had worked hard for the rakyat.

“As the minister (covering) the cost of living, he was caring and would frequently discuss with (me) on helping Selangorians,” he said in a tweet.

DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng said he could not describe his sadness upon the death of his friend and comrade.

“He has sowed the seeds of hope for the future of this country with his deeds and leadership,” he said in a Facebook post.

DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang said the nation had lost a great son. “Salahuddin was most approachable and down-to-earth, a man who could look after the interests of all Malaysians, regardless of race or religion.”  FMT

Special flight to send Salahuddin’s remains home, says Loke

SEREMBAN: A special flight has been arranged to send Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub’s remains back to Johor, says Anthony Loke Siew Fook.

“His special officer contacted me to see if a special flight could be arranged to take the minister’s remains from Alor Star back to Johor for final rites.

“A MAS special flight will depart KL International Airport around 11pm Sunday night and will leave for Johor Baru from Alor Star at around 1am,” said the Transport Minister on Sunday (July 23) night.

Loke said the later Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister was not only an effective leader for Amanah but for Pakatan Harapan as well.

“My heartfelt condolences to his family for their loss. The late Salahuddin was a respected and well-liked leader who did exceptionally well as a minister with many initiatives to help the rakyat,” he said.

Loke said Salahuddin had never betrayed his party and had always been loyal to its struggles. ANN

Condolences start pouring in from MPs online for Salahuddin

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family members of Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub who passed away at the Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah on Sunday (Jan 23).

Dr Ahmad Zahid described Salahuddin as a Cabinet colleague who was deeply respected, humble and always committed in carrying out all of his duties.

“With deep sorrow, I receive the news of the passing of Salahuddin, who passed away at 9:23pm at Sultanah Bahiyyah Hospital, Alor Setar, Kedah.

“Until his last moments, he was concerned and continued to fight for the well-being of the people,” he said in a statement on Sunday night.

“The nation has lost a great leader. Let us all pray that Allah will bestow His mercy upon him and grant patience to his entire family for this loss,” added Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Barisan Nasional chairman.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution said that the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub advised him to look after his health only last week.

He said that he has known the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Salahuddin for decades and have always been close friends.

“I am at a loss as we were very close. Salahuddin was a very soft-spoken man and he was always committed to his responsibilities.

“Even last week, he told me to take care of my health as he said his blood pressure was a bit on the high side.

“We were supposed to move the election campaign for the states together this week, but alas, he is gone too soon. I will miss him dearly.

“My deepest condolences to the family,” said Saifuddin.

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil also prayed that Salahudin to Allah that he be placed among the most faithful.

“In politics, I will always remember the beautiful, painful, happy and difficult moments, especially in the Pakatan Harapan Leadership Council.

“You will be missed, dear friend,” he said, adding that may all efforts, services and devotion of the deceased be rewarded,” he said.

Nurul Izzah Anwar, in her condolences post said Salahuddin was a person who had a good heart, had high empathy, and always strove to fulfil his mission for the sake of the people.

She hoped that the deceased family could be strong enough to face the big loss.

Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin also paid tribute to the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, whom he described as a leader who was mature, progressive and pragmatic.

“Our political ideology may be different but he is a person whom I respect.

“It is with great sadness that I express my deepest condolences to the family of the late Datuk Seri Salahuddn Ayub, whom I regard as a friend.

“To the late Salahuddin’s family, I understand that losing someone you love is not easy, but be patient with this test by Allah,” said Hamzah in a Facebook post.

The death of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister was confirmed in a Facebook post by his daughter Fatihah Salahuddin on Sunday.

In a statement, Salahuddin’s press secretary Syakirin Husnal said the minister’s remains would be taken to his mother’s house in Kampung Serkat (Kopi Tenggek) in Tanjung Piai, Johor. ANN
