FRU TRUCKS & RIOT SQUADS DEPLOYED – IN CASE SANUSI, PAS & BERSATU ARE FOOLISH ENOUGH TO STRIKE BACK AT SELANGOR SULTAN’S DECREE – WHEN SANUSI SHOULD APOLOGISE AGAIN TO SHOW HIS SINCERITY & HELP PAS-PN SALVAGE ITS CHANCES AT UPCOMING STATE POLLS

Sanusi must apologise again to save PN’s polls chances, says analyst

Azmi Hassan says Sanusi Nor’s previous apology seemed insincere as he said his remarks at a recent ceramah had been distorted by his political rivals.

Sanusi Nor must tender a sincere apology to reduce the negative perception of PN heading towards the Selangor state election, says academic Azmi Hassan.

PETALING JAYA: Caretaker Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor should tender another public apology to the sultan of Selangor for allegedly insulting him if Perikatan Nasional is to stand a chance of doing well in the coming Selangor state election.

Azmi Hassan of Akademi Nusantara said Sanusi’s apology to Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, posted on social media on Friday, may be deemed insincere after he claimed at a recent ceramah that his remarks had been distorted by his political rivals.

Azmi said Sanusi must tender a fresh apology to resolve the issue and reduce the negative perception of PN heading into the state election on Aug 12.

“Sanusi also needs to temper his rhetoric and harsh statements. While they may be liked by PAS supporters, such statements will likely alienate fence-sitters (at the coming state polls),” Azmi told FMT.

Sanusi is set to face two charges at the sessions court in Selayang this morning, believed to be related to remarks he made at a recent ceramah, at which he compared the sultans of Kedah and Selangor, claiming that the Kedah ruler would not have appointed Amirudin Shari as menteri besar.

James Chin of the University of Tasmania agreed that the conflict between Sanusi and the Selangor palace will undermine PN’s campaign in Selangor for the coming state election.

He said Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional will use the issue as proof of Sanusi’s disrespect to the head of state.

“Considering that the Malay rulers are important in the Malay community, I’m sure PH-BN will use it to the fullest to show PAS and Sanusi are un-Malaylike,” Chin said.

State elections will take place in Selangor, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang and Negeri Sembilan on Aug 12.  FMT

FRU deployed to Gombak ahead of Sanusi court appearance

A policeman with the Gombak district police said the FRU units are on standby to ensure no provocative incidents occur.

GOMBAK: The police have deployed the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) at the Gombak district police station, to ensure no untoward incidents tomorrow, when Perikatan Nasional election director Sanusi Nor is expected to be charged in the Selayang sessions court.

A policeman who declined to be named said the police had deployed the riot squad to stand by in case of any provocative incidents. “The FRU were deployed to ensure safety and security is maintained, and to ensure no provocations occur,” he told FMT.

On social media, a message was widely shared claiming that PAS was calling out over 20,000 members from Kedah and Selangor to stage a protest. However, PAS has denied sending such a message, saying that “dirty politics is being played”.

The policeman declined to reveal the strength of the FRU deployment.

Sanusi, who is caretaker Kedah menteri besar, is expected to face two charges before two sessions court judges tomorrow.

The charges are believed to be in relation to remarks about the Sultan of Selangor, which have resulted in numerous police reports being lodged against him.  FMT
