Sanusi pleads not guilty to insulting Selangor Ruler

Caretaker Kedah MB Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor is being charged under Section 4(1)(A) of the Sedition Act for statements he made on July 11 that insulted the Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah during a speech in Gombak.

SELAYANG — Caretaker Kedah menteri besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor pleaded not guilty to charges of sedition in the Sessions Court here today.

Sanusi appeared in the courtroom dressed in a white shirt, black pants and shoes with no socks.

He was charged under Section 4(1)(A) of the Sedition Act for statements made on July 11 that insulted the Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah during a speech in Gombak.

After Sanusi was read his charges, he answered with: “Not guilty, Your Honour.”

Judge Nor Rajiah Mat Zin then set bail at RM5,000 and placed a gag order on him not talk about the case until it is over. MM

Sanusi arrested at 3am ahead of sedition charge

Police have arrested caretaker Kedah menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Noor at 3am today in the Klang Valley.

This was according to a video uploaded to his political secretary Helmi Khalid’s Facebook page.

This account claimed that Sanusi received about 20 police personnel at his hotel room at 2.30am and was brought to the Gombak district police station half an hour later.

Based on still photographs shown in the clip, Sanusi was whisked away in a police SUV without handcuffs.

According to Berita Harian, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain confirmed that a team from the Bukit Aman national police headquarters had detained Sanusi.

He is expected to be charged under Section 4 of the Sedition Act 1948 in connection to his speech in Selayang, Selangor on July 11, in which he made reference to the process of appointing a menteri besar by the sultan.

Sanusi is expected to face charges at the Sessions Court in Selayang this morning. As of 9am, he has yet to arrive at the courthouse. MKINI
