Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has called for Kedah caretaker menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor to clarify the roles of Chinese nationals purportedly associated with Menteri Besar Kedah Incorporated (MBI Kedah)’s rare earth project.

Speaking at the launch of the Penang BN-Harapan election machinery launch last night, Saifuddin said Sanusi has until today to clear the air on two issues involving these individuals.

He alleged that they entered Malaysia with social visit passes rather than employment passes.

“First of all, can Sanusi name the male Chinese national who entered through a social visit pass to work with MBI Kedah, who later got arrested in January?

“Secondly, can Sanusi explain why MBI Kedah CEO Muhamad Sobri Osman, along with a group of Chinese nationals, later formed a registered company in Malaysia, even though these individuals entered with social visit passes?

“If they later became directors in that company, I ask Sanusi to list how many people he has allowed to sit together with Sobri,” Saifuddin said during the event at the Seberang Jaya expo site.

However, he did not provide any information regarding the separate company above.

Prior to his speech, Saifuddin already laid allegations of purported undocumented workers, specifically the ones who were arrested, being linked to Sanusi and MBI Kedah.

He then claimed that he had incriminating photos of those arrested meeting with Sanusi.

MB allegedly fined RM500k

On Saturday, Saifuddin alleged that Sanusi was fined RM500,000 last year over the theft of rare earth elements (REE) in Kampung Chong, Sik, Kedah.

In response to this, Sanusi firmly denied that neither he nor MBI was issued the fine, but rather a third party, and said he will take legal action against Saifuddin for the allegations.

According to New Straits Time, Sanusi said the person slapped with the fine was a man from Kuala Krai, Kelantan.

He was reported to have shown the media supporting documents related to the case.

However, Saifuddin stood his ground and stated that none of the parties involved can deny that the Kedah Land and Mines Office director issued a fine to MBI Kedah.

“No one, including the director, can deny it. The Land and Mines Office sent the letter to MBI Kedah.

“It exists, it’s not a fairy tale… that fact doesn’t change,” he said.
