Repent, Zahid tells Sanusi for allegedly insulting Selangor sultan
The PAS man allegedly touched on the sultan’s royal assent to appoint Amirudin Shari as menteri besar in 2018.
PUTRAJAYA: Deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has advised Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor to “repent” for allegedly insulting the Sultan of Selangor in a ceramah recently.
Zahid was referring to a speech Sanusi made, where the PAS man touched on Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s royal assent for the appointment of Amirudin Shari as menteri besar in 2018.
“Politics is not a joke… I hope he will repent because not everything needs to be turned into campaign material, as it can be detrimental to himself.
“There’s no need for me to respond (to his speech). He doesn’t know how to differentiate between fact and fiction,” the BN chairman told reporters at an event here.
Communications and digital minister Fahmi Fadzil had also told the Kedah Perikatan Nasional chief that he will have to take responsibility for his remarks, which comes after repeated warnings not to touch on the 3R issues related to race, religion and royalty.
“Those who (still) dare to do this have to face the consequences,” Berita Harian quoted him as saying.
Meanwhile, Zahid urged Umno and BN supporters to be wary of their rivals’ propaganda, dismissing claims that supporters of former prime minister Najib Razak will back PN in the Aug 12 state elections.
“When I met Najib previously, he also told me that we must not be occupied by the games played by others outside the party,” he said. “Umno’s efforts (to seek a royal pardon for Najib) are ongoing.”
He was responding to a pro-Najib group’s claim that Najib’s supporters will back PN instead of BN and Pakatan Harapan in the coming state elections.
Sinar Harian quoted Pertubuhan Jalinan Perpaduan Negara president Syed Imran Syed Abdul Aziz as saying they were disappointed by the unity government’s failure to seek justice for Najib. FMT
PKR lodges report against Sanusi over Selangor sultan remarks
Shah Alam PKR says political speeches should not attack or insult the royal institution, even over the sultan’s prerogative to appoint the menteri besar.
SHAH ALAM: Several PKR members here have lodged a police report against Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor, for allegedly insulting the Sultan of Selangor at a ceramah recently.
Shah Alam PKR information chief Suryamuizzudin Kamarudin accused Sanusi of disregarding the authority and prerogative of the sultan in the appointment of the menteri besar.
“Political speeches should not be a channel to attack, insult or harass the royal institutions.
“Sanusi’s speech is clearly insulting the sultan and cannot be accepted by the people of Selangor,” he told reporters after lodging the report at the Section 9 police station here today.
Sanusi had reportedly drawn a comparison between the Kedah and Selangor sultans, and said the former would not have appointed Amirudin Shari as menteri besar.
He had described Amirudin as being of “no quality”. FMT
