WOW! NAJIB PLAYS ‘GOOD GUY’ – INSTEAD OF JOINING ‘CROOKED’ SUCCESSORS MAHATHIR & MUHYIDDIN TO WREST POWER – JAILED EX-PM TOLD HIS CHILDREN TO SUPPORT ANWAR’S UNITY GOVT, REVEALS ZAHID – ‘IF NAJIB HIMSELF HAS REQUESTED IT, NOT ONLY HIS SUPPORTERS BUT ALL MALAYSIANS SHOULD SUPPORT HIS REQUEST TO SUPPORT THE UNITY GOVT’

Zahid urges Najib’s supporters to back unity govt

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has urged former premier Najib Abdul Razak’s supporters to vote during the upcoming state elections.

Zahid said there are efforts underway to help Najib in the legal and other aspects.

“We have to separate (Najib’s) legal issues with the upcoming elections. Even his own children have urged supporters to back the unity government.

“If Najib is asking you to back the government, not only his supporters, all Malaysians should support the unity government,” Zahid told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today.

Zahid was replying to a question from a reporter who alleged that some of Najib’s supporters will boycott the upcoming election because the government was not committed to freeing Najib.

During the Umno annual general assembly last month, Najib’s three children lobbied the party to help their father achieve freedom.

Najib has been serving a 12-year jail term since last August for criminal breach of trust, abuse of power and money laundering involving state-owned SRC International Sdn Bhd.

With all legal avenues exhausted, Najib’s only hope for freedom is through a royal pardon.

When the Federal Territories Pardons Board last met on April 28, it did not consider pardon petitions filed on Najib’s behalf.

According to the board’s secretary Khairul Dzaimee Daud, the application would only be considered at an “appropriate time”.  MKINI

Not surprised predecessors in cahoots, says PM

It comes as no surprise that former prime ministers Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Muhyiddin Yassin are in “cahoots” to defend their ways and wealth, said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today.

This comes after Muhyiddin visited Mahathir at the latter’s home in Seri Kembangan, Selangor on Tuesday night for nearly two hours.

“This is not a new thing (on such moves). We know that these groups will collude to continue their ways and defend their wealth.

“However, we (the government) will still be responsible for defending and protecting the country and the people’s wellbeing,” he told reporters after attending the 2023 International Social Wellbeing Conference at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel today.

On Tuesday, Mahathir and Muhyiddin appeared to have finally buried the hatchet and sat down for a discussion for the first time since the infamous Sheraton Move in 2020.

Muhyiddin then revealed that his meeting with Mahathir was not focused on the Malay Proclamation, but claimed to have spoken “at length about the position and future of the Malays”.

The Perikatan Nasional chairperson said the pair also agreed on strengthening the unity among the Malays and increasing support for PN, especially in the upcoming six state elections.

The Malay Proclamation, which lists 12 key problems faced by the community, is an initiative by Mahathir to unite the Malays across the political divide.

Muhyiddin is the second key figure in the Sheraton Move to have visited Mahathir over the past week after Azmin Ali.

Mahathir had previously called Muhyiddin a “betrayer” for the latter’s role in the Sheraton Move, which caused the fall of the Pakatan Harapan government in February 2020.

After the events of the Sheraton Move, Mahathir formed a new party called Pejuang, but it was vanquished during the parliamentary elections.

Now, his central platform is the Malay Proclamation, a movement that he hopes will unite Malays politically.

In recent months, the former premier appeared to have softened his stance regarding Muhyiddin and the latter’s Perikatan Nasional coalition.  mkini

Zahid calls on Najib’s supporters to back unity govt in state polls

The Barisan Nasional chairman says Najib Razak has conveyed his support for the current administration.

BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said there is no reason for Najib Razak’s supporters not to back the unity government when the former prime minister himself has asked them to do so.

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called on supporters of former prime minister Najib Razak to back the unity government in the coming elections in six states.

The Umno president said as Najib had conveyed his support for the current administration, there was no reason his supporters should not follow suit.

“Najib conveyed through his children that support must be given to the unity government.

“If Najib himself has requested it, not only his supporters but all Malaysians should support his request (to support the unity government),” he said at a press conference here today.

He said there was no reason for people to continue thinking that efforts were not being made to seek justice for Najib.

Najib is serving a 12-year jail sentence after he was convicted in the SRC International corruption case. His lawyers and supporters claim he was not granted a fair trial. Moves to seek a royal pardon, supported by Umno, were initiated in April.

The Election Commission yesterday announced that elections will be held in Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan on Aug 12.  FMT
