TWO LOSERS, MAHATHIR & AZMIN, MEET TO GET MALAYS TO ‘UNITE AGAINST ENEMIES WHO HAVE HIDDEN AGENDA’ – EVEN AS EC FIXES WEDNESDAY TO DECIDE POLLING DATE FOR STATE ELECTIONS

Dr M fetes Azmin, wants Malays to unite

Selangor Perikatan Nasional chief Azmin Ali visited former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday to discuss current affairs.

Azmin said on his Instagram page that the visit was in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha, and his wife, Shamsidar Taharin, accompanied him.

According to Azmin, Mahathir shared his working visits to the UK, Turkey and Bosnia Herzegovina.

“Tun (Mahathir) also shared his videos on the domestic political situation.

“Apart from the economy and cost of living, he also urged Malays to unite against our enemies who have a hidden agenda,” Azmin said.

Azmin pointed out that Mahathir and his wife, Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, will soon turn 98 and 97 soon. Azmin wished them both good health.

Azmin was once Mahathir’s economic affairs minister between 2018 and 2020.

However, in February 2020, Azmin became a crucial figure in the “Sheraton Move”, which compelled Mahathir to resign as prime minister, paving the way for Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin to become prime minister.

Mahathir heads the Malay Proclamation movement, which has garnered support from Muhyiddin and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

Mahathir has also stated he was now backing Perikatan Nasional for the upcoming six-state elections.  mkini

EC to meet Wednesday to decide dates for 6 state elections

The six states going to the polls soon are Kelantan, Selangor, Penang, Kedah, Negeri Sembilan and Terengganu.

PETALING JAYA: The Election Commission (EC) will meet on July 5 to discuss the dates for the six state elections.

The meeting, which will be chaired by EC chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh, will discuss the nomination and polling dates.

“A press conference will be held immediately after the meeting,” EC secretary Ikmalrudin Ishak said in a statement.

On July 1, Negeri Sembilan dissolved its state assembly, the last of the six states to do so.

In December, Ghani said he would prefer if the six state polls were held simultaneously, saying it would help them coordinate its manpower.

Last month, Putrajaya revealed that the cost of holding the elections in the six states could come up to RM420 million.  FMT
