IT WILL not be easy for Pakatan Harapan to repeat the sweet success of GE14 in the next general election because its performance will be the key determinant of its future, said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad this evening.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the gala premiere for the M for Malaysia documentary, Dr Mahathir said PH was able to seal its victory in GE14 due to the Najib Razak factor.
“In that election, the main issue was Najib. In GE15, he will not have a (track) record during that period of time. People will be assessing the performance of Pakatan Harapan,” he said.
“It need not be easy. The second time is never easy,” he said, using the difficulty of the Alliance Party coalition – the precursor of Barisan Nasional – in repeating its success in its second general election after independence.
He said the ruling coalition will have to perform.
However, he acknowledged that some things will take many years to come to fruition, especially when it comes to recovering financial losses from the legacy issues inherited from the previous government.
Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir said M for Malaysia was factual and not one sided, because it highlighted both the good and bad, adding that it’s also a lesson for a person to accept criticism as much as praise.
The 90-minute documentary, which recounts the formation of an unlikely coalition between former political adversaries and their unprecedented victory, documents the key moments that transpired during the campaign and PH’s eventual victory on May 9, 2018.
M for Malaysia was produced and directed by Dian Lee and Dr Mahathir’s granddaughter Ineza Roussille.
