IPOH – Two men escaped with RM1 million worth of jewellery in a brazen robbery in Jalan Chin Hwa here early today.
Two men in their 30s were traveling in two separate 4WDs – Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Toyota Fortuner – when their vehicles were hit by a lorry while passing the road.
Two suspects armed with parang then emerged from the lorry and grabbed several bags during the 6.30am incident.
It is leant that the jewellery were just taken from the owner’s house and they would be delivered to Kelantan.
Acting Perak Criminal Investigation Department chief assistant commissioner Anuar Othman said initial investigation revealed that both suspects used a lorry that was reported to be missing early today in Klang, Selangor.
Anuar said both suspects did not hurt the victims and they immediately fled the scene after getting the jewelleries using another vehicle in less than five minutes.
“Both suspects managed to escape with four begs containing jewellery worth RM1 million. One of the victims sustains minor injuries due to broken glass and he was taken to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for further treatment.
“Besides the two suspects, we believed that there are another two suspects who travelled in a different car to escape with the rest, and police are intensifying efforts to identify the car.
“We believe that this is a well-planned robbery and we will investigate in every aspect as well as obtain closed-circuit camera television (CCTV) along the road, if there’s any,” he told reporters when met at the scene.
