Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has assured that the police would be independent with regard to investigating a sex video implicating Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali.
The Bersatu president was asked if the police would be able to conduct a fair probe when Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had dismissed the video as fake and defended Azmin twice on the matter.
“I think that was the prime minister’s view of what he felt about the whole situation,” said Muhyiddin when met at the Parliament lobby this afternoon.
“I guarantee they (police) will be independent as the integrity of the government is important as well,” he added.
Azmin has described the video, which shows a man resembling him engaged in sexual acts with another man, as part of a nefarious campaign to ruin his political career.
After the video was leaked, former PKR Santubong Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz claimed that he was the person in the clip and that the incident was recorded without his knowledge in Azmin’s hotel room in Sandakan, Sabah.
