The spotlight has fallen on 27-year-old Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz after his confessionthat he was filmed engaging in sexual acts with a man resembling a cabinet minister.
Haziq is currently the senior private secretary to Deputy Primary Industries Minister Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin.
His appointment as Shamsul’s aide on Jan 19 is as far back as his current social media accounts go.
However, the youth has had a long history with PKR. While in Universiti Malaya, he was the founder and president of PKR’s student wing, Mahasiswa Keadilan, back in 2012 and was still holding the position in 2014.
Not much is publicly known about his activities between 2014 and 2018.
A source told Malaysiakini that Haziq had expressed an intention to quit PKR sometime in 2016.
However, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution said the party never received a letter from Haziq on leaving the party.
“There was no record that he ever sent a resignation later… so his name stayed in party membership (roll),” Saifuddin said when contacted.
Haziq then went on to become an intern for then minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri. One source close to him said he joined Nancy in 2017.
He also appeared to be part of Nancy’s election team. A tweet by the Batang Sadong MP on May 1, 2018 showed Haziq wearing a “Kamek Milih Nancy” (I choose Nancy) T-shirt, which also had the words #teamnancyshukri on it.
Saifuddin said no PKR member lodged a complaint with the party over Haziq’s activities with Nancy, thus no action was taken against him.
Haziq returned to the PKR fold after the 14th general election, and was later elected the Santubong division youth chief.
During the party election, he had backed Najwan Halimi.
Haziq posted his confession on the sex video on Facebook early this morning.
In his confession, he also urged the MACC to investigate the senior PKR leader he was said to be in bed with, for alleged corruption and claimed that the latter was unfit to be a leader.
Malaysiakini is withholding the name of the minister pending his response to our questions.
Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that the video clip was systematically sent to members of the media and political party members.
Journalists were added into various WhatsApp groups in which the video was uploaded. -MKINI
PKR grassroot leaders urge minister in sex video to speak up
THE federal minister said to be in a sex video with another man should break his silence and answer the allegations, a Johor PKR leader said.
Additionally, the man who admitted to being his partner in the video should be suspended from his post as an aide to a deputy minister, the party’s Selangor Youth leaders said.
Johor PKR chief Hassan Abdul Karim said the minister needs to clear his name on such a serious matter.
“This is serious character assassination… we cannot treat this as a simple matter and continue to keep quiet and think that it is going to go away,” Hassan was quoted as saying by The Star.
“If nothing is done to contain or explain this, it will hurt Pakatan Harapan and PKR,” said Hassan, who is also Pasir Gudang MP.
The PKR political bureau will be meeting this evening and the video clip is expected to be on the agenda.
The video clip, which shows two men in bed and one of them purportedly a federal minister, was disseminated to journalists from different local media yesterday.
Earlier today, Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdul Aziz confessed in a 30-second video posted on his Facebook page to being the other man in bed with the minister, whom he named and declared unfit to be a national leader.
Haziq said the video clip of them in bed was taken “without his consent” on May 11 at a hotel room in Sandakan, on the day the seat held a by-election.
The minister has yet to issue any statement on the video till now.
Haziq, who is principal private secretary to Deputy Primary Industries Minister Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, now faces calls for action following his confession.
Kuala Selangor PKR Youth chief M Rajevigneswaran, claiming to speak on behalf of all other state party Youth division chiefs, said Shamsul Iskandar should immediately suspend Haziq from his post.
“We feel the image of the ministry and of the Malaysian government is being tarnished because of this conspiracy that is similar to another one 20 years ago,” he said, referring to the allegations of sodomy against Anwar Ibrahim in 1998 and his sacking from government.
“The principal private secretary in this incident should not be allowed to have official communication with other government agencies and with the public to protect the ministry’s credibility.
“We hope immediate action will be taken to prevent further erosion of the reputation and government’s efforts to govern the country,” Rajevigneswaran said.
Earlier, PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin expressed certainty that the sex video was fake, calling it a conspiracy to kill the minister’s political career. THE MALAYSIAN INSIGHT
