PKR did not sack its deputy president Azmin Ali, as widely speculated on social media platforms last night.
When contacted this morning, PKR communications director Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin told Malaysiakini that the meeting, in which Azmin was purportedly sacked, as claimed on social media, did not even take place last night.
“Rumours remain just that… rumours,” he said.
Last night, social media channels, including Facebook and Twitter, were abuzz with claims that Azmin, who is the economic affairs minister, was sacked from PKR.
None of these claims cited a source to back the speculation.
A large number of social media users spreading such claims said the sacking had to do with Azmin’s rift with the party’s vice-president Rafizi Ramli.
Azmin had retained his position as deputy president during the party’s election by a narrow margin against Rafizi.
