PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong says he would like to know how Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng became a qualified accountant one year before obtaining a degree.
The MCA president pointed out that it was stated on the DAP secretary-general’s personal website (limguaneng.com) that he became a qualified professional accountant in 1983.
“I do not doubt Lim’s certification from Monash. But how did Lim become a professional accountant in 1983, a year before obtaining his degree?” Dr Wee asked in a Facebook post on Sunday (Feb 10).
“Was it by a local or foreign agency?
“Which country accepts an Economics graduate to become a ‘qualified professional accountant’?
“For a minister who always stresses on the concept of Competency, Accountability and Transparency (CAT), please explain and don’t be quiet,” he added.
The Star has made several attempts to contact Lim for comment.
In another post, Dr Wee also said that Johor Mentri Besar Osman Sapian act of avoiding questions from the media about his Bachelor in Accounting degree obtained from UPM in 1985, was “suspicious.”
“UPM’s official website stated that the course was introduced in 1985. How could there be such a ‘super fast track’ graduate produced in the same year?
“If Osman fails to prove that his academic credentials are genuine, is he fit to lead the state? This is a question of integrity,” he said.
