KUALA LUMPUR: Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd recorded over 20,100 vehicles sold in January of which 1,025 units were its sports utility vehicle (SUV) – the Aruz – on the last day of January.

Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd managing director, Datuk Dr Zahari Husin said this was 13.6% more compared with 17,700 units a year ago.

“While Aruz has been received well with 8,000 booking so far, our other models has been doing equally well with more than 19,000 units registered in January,” he said.

“Despite the delay in the registration of Aruz, we managed to maximise the delivery of Aruz up to the wee hours, in anticipation of the long CNY break,” he added.

Zahari estimated Perodua’s market share for January 2019 to be around 41.7%. The number of Perodua cars sold in January increased by 9.2% from 18,400 in December 2018.

“The strong demand for Aruz has resulted some waiting period especially for the AV variant. We are doing our best to reduce this waiting period to a more acceptable level,” he said.

He said current orders for the Aruz was 85% for the Advanced Version (RM77,900 without insurance) and 15% for the X variant (RM72,900 without insurance).

He dismissed speculation about a price hike for Perodua Aruz, adding they would be maintained.

On the demand for its other models, Zahari said sales are encouraging with the new Perodua Myvi was leading in terms of sales with over 8,400 units sold in January.  Axia recorded sales of more than 5, 500 units, Bezza 3,400 units and Alza 1,600 units.
