GEORGE TOWN – DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng today suggested that Liow Tiong Lai consider becoming an affiliate member of Umno and PAS, following the MCA president’s remarks against DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang.
Accusing Liow of using “extremist tactics” to stir hatred within his own race, Guan Eng said the MCA man was a “big embarrassment as a Chinese Barisan Nasional leader”.
“It appears that Liow and MCA want to campaign on behalf of DAP to be the prime minister of Malaysia. DAP has never demanded the prime minister’s post. Our pick has been Anwar Ibrahim.
“He (Liow) has created a racial rift in our harmonious society.
“I think it is better for Liow to become an affiliate member of PAS and Umno if he is so hard up stirring hatred among non-Muslims,” Guan Eng said, adding that he would like to congratulate the two parties for “brainwashing” Liow.
At an event in Johor yesterday, Liow had called Kit Siang an unprincipled politician who was clever at sowing racial discord.
“Only he (Kit Siang) knows if he has ambitions of becoming prime minister or deputy prime minister.
“I would say that he is a politician who cannot be trusted and who will cause racial disharmony,” he said.
Speaking to reporters, Guan Eng said he was shocked to see Liow singing the same tune as Umno and PAS, portraying Kit Siang as the Malay bogeyman.
“It is shocking that Liow is ‘senada, senyanyi, serentak and sehati sejiwa’ with Umno and PAS.
“We are on a very serious path, with Liow using the same words as PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.
“I would like to condemn these threats and the scaring of Malays and Muslims into hating the non-Muslims,” Guan Eng said.
FMT has contacted Liow for comment and is awaiting his reply.
