JOHOR BARU – In the latest series of social media postings gone viral, this time, the Johor government has found itself to be in the eye of the storm. Making its rounds on social media now is a Bangsa Johor identity card, of which, the state government has vehemently denied having ever issued.
State secretary Azmi Rohani said no such card had been issued by the government or any government department. “Using the Johor identity in such a manner, without first referring to the state secretary, is prohibited,” he said in a statement today. Photos of the purported identity card have been spreading like wildfire. In fact, the card also supposedly offers several functions similar to that of a credit card.
There was also a ‘registration form’ for the card which was uploaded online. Since then, Johor Menteri Besar’s press secretary Ahmad ‘Asri Khalbi said a report has been lodged in connection with the hoax at the Seri Alam district police headquarters tonight.
