KAJANG – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will study if there is a need to vet those who receive Datuk or Datuk Seri titles.
MACC chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad (pic) said this after a surprise visit to several government agencies at the Kompleks Perhentian Kajang here Tuesday.
At present, he said, the MACC would only carry out vetting if there is a request from state or federal authorities who are conferring the awards and titles.
“We will vet the names of those who are to be conferred titles if we are asked to do it,” he said.
Dzulkifli was asked to comment on the recent arrests of four grassroots politicians with Datuk titles as well as a Datuk Seri, who was among 60 hardened gangsters detained in the biggest swoop on organised crime this year.
The suspects were detained in a special police operation, Ops Cantas, against organised crimes.
On another matter, Dzulkifli said he has ordered all MACC directors to carry out surprise checks and walkabouts in their respective states.
