IN an ironic turn of events, a young imam and an Islamic Affairs officer were sentenced to 14 days’ jail and fined RM2,900 by the Gombak Timur District Syariah Lower Court for committing khalwat (close proximity), reported Kosmo!.

The sentences was meted by judge Shaiful Azli Jamaludin after Mohd Noruddin Salam Naluwi, 29, and Siti Khadijah Md Ghazali, 27, pleaded guilty to the offence.

Mohd Noruddin and Siti Khadijah admitted committing khalwat at a house in Taman Melawati at 3.30am on July 30.

A team of enforcement officers from the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) raided the house after receiving a complaint from the public about an unmarried couple staying in the house.

During the raid, the officers found Siti Khadijah sleeping in a bed that was also shared by Mohd Noruddin.

Mohd Noruddin is an imam at a mosque in Taman Melawati and a widower with two kids. Siti Khadijah, who is unmarried, is an Islamic Affairs officer with a public university.

> A man is so passionate about his cow-breeding business that he sometimes sleeps with them in the shed, reported Harian Metro.

Mohd Syahrir Mustapha, 34, spends most of his time taking care of his cows in Terengganu.

“I’m immune to what other people say. They might say I’m too obsessed and that is the reason why I’m single, but I really love my eight cows that I have raised since 2010,” he said.

Belgium Blue, Charolais, Limousin and Blonde are some of the breeds that Mohd Syahrir owns, which can fetch between RM5,000 and RM12,000 depending on their age and size.

According to Mohd Syahrir, raising these breeds were easier than normal cows because they liked to be stroked.

He said he spends about RM50 to RM70 on the cows daily.
