THE prime minister’s wife, Rosmah Mansor, today said the 14th general election would likely be held before July next year.
In a speech to Wanita Umno members, she said Najib Razak had asked her for her views on the right time to hold the polls, which must be called before August.
Rosmah said she was not “wise” in politics and did not know how to answer her husband, but she felt that the general election might be held before July.
“I see the faces (of Wanita Umno) are ready for the election. Do not ask me when because I do not know.
“I think even (Najib) doesn’t know. He has asked me, ‘when do you think we should have the election?’, and I said, ‘I don’t know lah. I don’t know politics’.
“The (Umno) Supreme Council always meets to talk about when GE14 will be held.
“I do not know, but I think it must be before July,” she said, without elaborating, at a Wanita Umno Skuad Sayang event at the Putra World Trade Centre today.
Rosmah is the patron of Skuad Sayang, the action arm of Umno’s women’s wing that conducts charity and humanitarian work.
Earlier, Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said the wing was the backbone of efforts to ensure victory for the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition.
She said Wanita Umno would always back Najib and Rosmah.
“We are not just supportive of the PM, but also supportive of Rosmah,” she said at the event, which drew thousands of members from all states, who were dressed in the party colours of red and white.
