KUALA LUMPUR— Mohamed Tawfik Dr Ismail today delivered a writ of summons to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia from the former’s lawsuit over proposed amendments to raise Shariah sentencing limits.
The son of former deputy prime minister Tun Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman arrived at Parliament at noon to serve the papers to Pandikar, whom he named as one of two respondents in the civil suit to block the Bill to amend the Shariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act.
Tawfik argued that the Bill by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang should not surface in Parliament until the disposal of his lawsuit.
“This makes the entire thing subjudice from today. We don’t expect to see amendments (to the Act) in the Order Paper tomorrow,” he told reporters at the entrance to Parliament today.
