Tension ran high outside the Selangor state secretariat building this afternoon when Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos turned up with another publicity stunt.
Jamal, dressed as a grave digger and accompanied by more than a dozen hearses with empty coffins in them, appeared outside the building to protest against the alleged abuse of the “Skim Mesra Usia Emas” (SMUE), a scheme to fund costs incurred at the death of senior family members in Selangor.
An unidentified man, accompanied by several people, confronted Jamal, yelling that the people are tired of his antics.
This prompted Jamal to challenge the man to take him on “one on one”.
However, the confrontation did not escalate as police quickly intervened to separate the two groups.
The anti-Jamal group claimed they were supporters of the Selangor government and were trying to interrupt Jamal’s speech.
Earlier in his speech, Jamal claimed elected representatives and constituency coordinators appointed by the state government were using the RM200 million allocation meant for SMUE.
“I’m not accusing you, but I want you to explain,” he said in reference to Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali.
Jamal also had the coffins unloaded from the hearse in front of the secretariat building.
He had also suggested that Azmin was in one of the coffins.
Jamal said he will take the matter to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) if Azmin did not provide a proper explanation.
“I have sufficient evidence and if Azmin does not explain soon I will hand them over to the MACC,” he said.
