BENTONG: Revenge could be behind the brutal murder of an elderly South Korean woman, whose body was found in a hotel bathroom at Genting Highlands today.
Xiang Lian Jin, 92, died from severe injuries while her 46-year-old daughter and Malaysian maid suffered bruises on the face, body, and eye after they were also targeted by the attacker during the incident.
The incident unfolded about 3.30pm on Monday when the elderly victim and her maid were resting in the room. The woman’s daughter and granddaughter had gone to the resort.
Suddenly, the suspect, armed with a knife, barged into the room and ordered the duo to keep quiet before tying their hands and legs using strips of cloth.
He then allegedly hit the maid and punched the senior citizen before dragging the elderly woman into the bathroom. He continued to hit her until she passed out. He then locked the woman in the bathroom.
When the victim’s daughter returned to the room, the assailant was lying in wait. He then assaulted her and tied her up,
After the suspect fled about 7am, the victim’s daughter and maid alerted the hotel management. Auxiliary police were deployed to the scene.
District police chief Mohamad Mansor Mohd Nor said investigations showed the suspect had a misunderstanding with the elderly women’s eldest son, involving money-lending activities at the resort.
The suspect decided to vent his anger by attacking the family.
“The suspect claimed he was not happy with the victim’s son who had tarnished his name; we believe the attack was an act of revenge. Police are in the midst of tracking down a 57-year-old South Korean man to facilitate investigations.
“Police will examine CCTV footage at the hotel to help locate the suspect. The victim’s body has been sent to the Bentong Hospital,” he said.
