SEGAMAT – PKR is expected to field its Wanita national vice-chief Tan Poh Lai as a candidate for the Sekijang parliamentary seat in the 14th general election.
PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar, however, declined to confirm whether Tan, who is the daughter of the late Tan Sri Dr Tan Chee Khoon, would be fielded in Sekijang.
“We are still discussing seat allocations with our Pakatan Harapan partners and we have learnt from past experience to keep our candidates list under wraps until the time is right.
“Based on past election results, Johor has many small margin seats and we are confident the results will go our way, which is why Pakatan has named Johor as our frontline state,” she said on Saturday after launching the Sekijang election machinery which will be led by Tan.
In the last general election, Barisan Nasional’s Anuar Abd Manap beat PKR candidate Julailey Jemadi with a majority of 3,007 votes.
Pakatan has listed Sekijang as one of the 15 parliamentary seats in Johor that it intends to wrest from Barisan.
On another matter, Nurul Izzah, who is Lembah Pantai MP, refused to confirm speculation that she will be contesting in Johor in GE14.
“As a national leader, I am eyeing all seats in the country including in Johor, as well as my own constituency,” she said.
