A moderate lifestyle with less food, no alcohol and no cigarettes are the secrets to the amazing health enjoyed by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“When I am asked about my health, that’s all. I do not smoke, I don’t drink (alcohol) either. I take a moderate diet, no matter how delicious the food,” he said in a live Facebook question and answer session.
He was asked by a netizen how is it that he could stand up during prayer time, while many people younger than him are forced to sit.
“I just want to say, we should be moderate in our life, not be too extreme,” he replied.
“When we eat too much, our stomach will grow bigger, and we need to take more food in order to be full. Our stomach will grow bigger day by day. We will put on weight and become less healthy,” he said.
“This will pressure the heart as it needs to pump blood to such a huge body, the heart cannot take it… gradually it will give out lah,” he said.
“I am 91-years-old and going on to be 92 soon. If my heart stops, then I will die. So, we need to think of ways not to pressure our heart so much,” he said.
To another question, Mahathir said the country could not impose Islamic administration in Malaysia as Islam barred its followers from causing chaos.
“Our official policy is to adopt only Islamic values, because not everyone in the country are Muslims. We cannot do something that will provoke chaos. This is not allowed by our religion. Se we need to find a way to prevent this from happening in a multi-religious country,” he said.
He pointed out that Islamic values are good and are accepted by other religions.
