SIBU – The wife of a former bank branch manager, who is charged with abetting in his 2012 murder, has been ordered to enter her defence.
Ling Hang Tsyr, 36, and her boyfriend, Tiong King Guan, were charged with abetting in the murder of Wong Jing Kui at 1.30am on June 14, 2012 at his home in Jalan Ulu Sg Merah.
The offence provides for the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
Wong, a former manager of an HSBC bank branch here, was 31.
Another accused, Ling Hoe Ing, 28, is currently serving a 16-year jail sentence after he pleaded guilty on Oct 1, 2013, to the alternative charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
After Hoe Ing pleaded guilty, the court gave Tiong and Ling a discharge not amounting to an acquittal on their abetment charge.
But the charges were reinstated in February 2015 after the prosecution filed an appeal to the Court of Appeal.
Tiong, however, has escaped and is still at large.
