Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has once again criticised his former-mentor-turned nemesis for purportedly changing his stance.
He said this while launching a tirade against Dr Mahathir Mohamad during a speech in Desa Pandan, Kuala Lumpur this morning.
Among others, he said Mahathir had criticised DAP as being a racist and an anti-Malay party in the past, but now wants to offer it the deputy prime minister’s post should the opposition win the coming general election.
“This Dr Mahathir, Tun Mahathir, U-turn Mahathir. I call him U-turn Mahathir, not Tun Mahathir, because he made too many U-turns […]
“Yesterday I read that he has made an admission. He said if the opposition wins, DAP would get the post of deputy prime minister.
“Ladies and gentlemen, for 22 years he criticised (DAP leader Lim Kit Siang). He said Kit Siang is a racist, anti-Islam and anti-Malay. Suddenly, he wants to offer Kit Siang the deputy premiership.
“What is he thinking? Do you like it or not?” he asked, to which the crowd replied ‘No!’.
“That being the case, we cannot depend our future (on them). Don’t make such statements or dealings because of politics, which would have huge implications on all of us.
“There is no need for me to elaborate, you can think for yourself what those implications are,” he added.
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had denied the party is seeking the deputy prime minister’s post, while Mahathir’s camp claim that the former premier was misquoted.
Mahathir, who is now the chairperson of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, had admitted that he was wrong about DAP being racist and anti-Malay during the DAP national convention last year.
The claim that DAP had been promised the deputy prime minister’s post originated from an Antarapos article, which quoted Mahathir saying that DAP had asked for the post and never requested the prime minister’s post.
Guan Eng said such discussions were never held.
