PETALING JAYA – Former minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim (pic) is now expected to announce his decision to join DAP at his residence in Tropicana on Tuesday morning.
He was originally scheduled to hold a press conference at the Royal Selangor Club in Bukit Kiara at 9.30am Tuesday but said he was informed by the club’s management that the event had to be cancelled.
Zaid claimed that the club had received “instructions from the top” to cancel the press conference.
“This was verbally communicated to me by the club. No detailed reasons were given, except that they received instructions from the ‘top’,” he said briefly when contacted.
“It (the press conference) will now be at my house, same time,” he added.
When contacted, Royal Selangor Club said that it could not immediately comment on the matter.
Zaid, formerly of PKR and Parti Kita, is widely believed to be planning a return to active politics by joining DAP.
According to an invitation that has been making the rounds, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and national adviser Lim Kit Siang are expected to be at the press conference.
Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman, is also reportedly slated to attend.
