Umno information chief Annuar Musa will leave it to his lawyers to handle a fresh accusation against him.
It was reported that an individual lodged a police report regarding alleged elements of misappropriation in a RM2.7 million computer software project from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), though the report was later retracted.
“I was puzzled about the police and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) report (made against me), but I later heard that the police report was withdrawn because it has been settled amicably?
“Whatever it is, it is better to leave this to the lawyers for further action in line with the law. Enough is enough,” Annuar said in a Facebook posting last night.
He said he had contacted MCMC regarding any RM2.7 million project, and MCMC had informed him that there has not been any computer software project awarded to anyone.
He even contacted the companies who had supposedly received the contracts, but they too told him there was no such contract which involved the MCMC.
“So what was the basis of the accusation of misappropriation?
“What was the motive behind this? Who was behind this? For what?” Annuar asked.
This is clearly a planned accusation and act of defamation which is very serious, he said.
He also questioned whether the law allowed for baseless accusations to be made viral until the “innocent becomes victimised” as well as why a false report was not investigated.
“Or are the ‘hidden hands’ powerful enough to arrange everything to go according to their whims?” he asked.
Annuar was previously suspended as Mara chairperson on Jan 31, following revelations that Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mara, had sponsored the cash-strapped Kelantan Football Association, of which Annuar was the president at that time.
He is also facing an investigation from MACC on that matter.
