A 42-year-old woman is facing human trafficking charges after she allegedly forced her underage daughter to sleep with an elderly man for money and eventually became pregnant.
Police believe the girl was 13 at the time of the original incident in Trang’s Kan Tang district.
The girl, now aged 15, gave birth to a child in March. Both she and the baby were now under the care of Songkhla Home for Children.
The girl’s mother now faces charges including human trafficking and procuring a girl under 15 for prostitution, Trang police deputy chief Colonel Triwit Sriprapa said yesterday.
The 66-year-old grandmother and the 72-year-old customer were arrested and charged on Tuesday.
While the grandmother also faces charges of human trafficking and procuring an underage girl for prostitution charges, the customer faces a charge of raping a 15-year-old girl, police say.
The girl’s mother denies that she took her daughter to the elderly man for sex and demanded money, Triwit said.
The woman is now living in another province with a new husband.
She claimed the grandmother never told her about the girl’s pregnancy. She said she found out about the baby when social welfare officials asked her consent to give the baby to the Songkhla Home for Children.
