PETALING JAYA – Automated teller machines (ATMs) in the country will operate as usual in the coming days, contrary to a viral message that claimed otherwise, following reports of the WannaCry ransomware.
Online transactions are also safe to be used, several banks have confirmed, debunking the message that is making its round on social media yesterday.
Checks with several banks’ customer service, including Maybank, Public Bank and CIMB, confirmed that the content of the message was not true.
The message had claimed that ATMs would be closed for the next two to three days due to a ransomware cyber attack in India, advising users to withdraw their money for the rest of the week.
It also warned users against making any online transactions and opening a video titled “Dance of the Hillary” as it contains a virus that formats mobile phones.
