KOTA KINABALU – Stern action will be taken against those spreading lies on social media, says Datuk Ahmad Maslan.
The Umno supreme council member said those caught spreading lies on social media should be penalised based on existing laws, adding that their offences be published in print and electronic media.
“The authorities concerned – namely the police and the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) – must track down offenders and make them face the consequences of their actions,” he said at the launch of a training course for Umno members here on Sunday.
Ahmad Maslan, who is also Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister, said Umno and Barisan Nasional members should not resort to lies on social media, but instead counter any misinformation being spread there.
In this regard, he said Barisan and Umno should immediately alert the police and the MCMC if they come across such posts on social media.
