KUALA LUMPUR – New Generation Party has changed its name to Minority Rights Action Party (Mira) and is seeking to officially join Pakatan Harapan.
Its president A. Rajaretinam said the party would look into the issues concerning ethnic minorities, which it claims has been neglected and marginalised.
“Who is looking into the plight of the minority groups? They have been neglected for far too long. We will work with Pakatan Harapan to swing these votes in their favour and all we want is for Pakatan to champion the rights of these people should it come to power,” he said at a press conference here on Saturday.
Rajaretinam claimed that Mira could swing 25 of 38 Barisan Nasional-held seats in the Opposition’s favour in the next general election.
He added that has been in contact with Pakatan chief secretary Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, who had promised to bring up Mira’s proposal to the presidential council.
Rajaretinam said Mira would not make any demands to contest for seats in GE14 but would give its full support to the Opposition.
