With the general election expected to be held soon, Pakatan Harapan has yet to name its candidate for the prime minister’s post should the opposition coalition seize control of Putrajaya.
However, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution promised that whoever the candidate is, the person would be better than Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
Chipping in, the coalition’s secretariat chief Saifuddin Abdullah quipped: “It is easy to find a candidate who is better than the current prime minister.”
He said that Harapan had also taken note of Zaid Ibrahim’s suggestion that Dr Mahathir Mohamad be named as the prime minister candidate.
The two leaders were speaking to the media after the weekly Harapan secretariat meeting at the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) headquarters in Petaling Jaya this afternoon.
The former Temerloh MP said the coalition’s primary focus with regard to the coming general election is to challenge BN on ideas and policies.
“That is why our meeting today focused on coming up with a common policy framework (for Harapan),” he added.
On another matter, PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil said Harapan’s media committee had received 317 public submissions for its new logo design.
“As of 11am today, we received 317 submissions… from people who sketched on tissue papers to others who proposed an entire branding kit,” he said.
Previously, PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli had posted three drafts of the logo on social media, asking the public to vote on them.
However, the designs drew criticism and ridicule instead.
Among those present at the Harapan secretariat meeting were Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) secretary-general Anuar Tahir and DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke.
