KUALA LUMPUR – There is a lot of misinformation being spread by irresponsible groups that had undermined the role of MCA in the country’s development, its president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said.
In stating this, Liow urged the media to understand the party more and produce accurate news to help the rakyat to understand the important role MCA played in building the nation.
He added MCA had contributed much in maintaining harmony and unity in multiracial Malaysia since the party’s formation before independence.
“MCA has a lot of strength and we want our media friends to understand us more. There is a lot of wrong information out there,” he said.
“It is the duty for me as party president and other MCA leaders to keep you (the media) informed and share the information,” he said in his speech during the MCA Media Night 2017 at the party headquarters here.
Liow said the media has the responsibility in its reporting as the public relies on the news to receive accurate information.
He also took a swipe against the opposition, especially DAP, for persistently trying to put MCA in a bad light and condemning the party’s role in the government.
He said MCA’s role in building Malaysia could not be denied as it is regarded as a “very strong component party of Barisan Nasional”.
“It is important that Chinese leaders are accepted and respected by the Malay community and we have good rapport with leaders of various communities,” he said.
Liow said MCA as an experienced party in Malaysian politics would continue to maintain its commitment to make the country a role model to the world.
