KUALA LUMPUR – Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin is once again given the mandate and honour to lead the parade at the opening of the Umno General Assembly 2017 on Dec 7.
The party’s executive secretary, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusof said like in previous years, all the events held in the halls, namely the main assembly and the assemblies of the party wings comprising the Wanita, Youth and Puteri would remain the same.
“The Umno Youth head is given the honour to oversee the parade to be participated by 50 representatives from each of the three wings,” he said when met by reporters after watching the first rehearsal of the opening ceremony of the annual general assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre, here, today.
At the 2016 general assembly, Khairy who is also Youth and Sports Minister, was given the honour to lead the parade as recognition for him being made a Brigadier General in the Territorial Army.

Khairy, who is also the member of Parliament for Rembau and commander of Regiment 508 of the Territorial Army, was promoted from the rank of Colonel to Brigadier General, effective Jan 14, 2015.
On preparations for the general assembly from Dec 5 to 9, Ab Rauf said it was still at the initial stage of 25 per cent and expected everything to be ready by Dec 2.
He said the registration of delegates including from the party’s wings would done all at once, on Dec 4, compared to previously which saw separate registration of delegates for the wings’ assemblies and the main assembly.
“All the party’s state secretaries and liaison secretaries have been informed about this. Through this approach, we can save costs and time,” he added.
