KHAIRY A REAL DISGRACE TO OXFORD: PIC OF DR M WITH OFFICERS MAY BE OLD BUT IT’S NOT FAKE & REMOVAL OF SECURITY DETAIL IS FACT NOT A LIE – YET TO ‘LOW STANDARD’ KHAIRY, IT’S ‘FAKE NEWS’

KUALA LUMPUR – A recent viral photo indicating the withdrawal of former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Special Action Unit (UTK) officers was actually a fake news, according to Umno youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

Khairy said the image was an old picture and had nothing to do with the withdrawal of Mahathir’s security personnel.

He added that the photo, which went viral a few days ago, showed Mahathir hugging two officers which was described as his security officers from the UTK.

“The news reported that the bodyguards were withdrawn from their service by the government.

“The government has then be labelled as cruel by others, stating that the former prime minister was qualified to be protected by security officers,” he noted.

“The viral news of Tun hugging the purported UTK officers must be stated as fake news,” he said in his speech at the Umno Social Media Convention at Putra World Trade Centre today.

Mahathir, who had joined the opposition, had took to Facebook on Nov 1 claiming that the elite police personnel were being withdrawn by the government.

Another image that surfaced on social media had showed Mahathir hugging the officers which were believed to be the UTK personnel.

Khairy said such news were purposedly created by certain parties to create public sympathy towards the veteran statesman.

He added that disparaging news published without any credible sources must also be condemned.

Khairy also pointed out that there were certain media organisations that always produce inaccurate news and that twist the facts in their reporting.

“There is a portal that I have disallowed to come to my press conference, because the organisation will spin the news and taken my words out of context,” he said.
