KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 27 — The Budget 2018 bloc vote last week would have ended in a tie if not for a PKR MP’s failure to sign off on an extra vote by a fellow Pakatan Harapan (PH) lawmaker, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia disclosed today.
Pandikar said Kapar MP G. Manivannan, who had called for the bloc vote, had failed to sign off on DAP MP for Stampin Julian Tan, causing the latter’s vote to be discounted.
“Because Manivannan Govindasamy as leader of the bloc failed to include Stampin MP Julian Tan,” he said.
The ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) narrowly defeated the PH Opposition pact 52 to 51 during the bloc vote that almost halted Putrajaya’s federal budget for next year.
Manivannan later admitted in Parliament that there was a mistake in tabulating votes from the Opposition bloc.
