PETALING JAYA – Tune Talk chief executive officer Jason Lo has denied a media report that he was detained in Dubai recently for drug possession, according to a news portal.
In a statement to theedgemarketmarkets.com on Thursday, Lo said he was sent to the police lockup because he had tried to help his friend who attempted to break up a fight.
He said he had grappled with a man who turned out to be an undercover cop, the portal reported.
Earlier Thursday, Harian Metro reported that the chief executive officer (CEO) of a local telecommunications company was detained at the Dubai International Airport for drug possession in September.
The daily’s website quoted a source as saying that the CEO, whom it did not name, was released after completing his jail term on Tuesday (Nov 7) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
“The individual had served his sentence at the Al-Aweer Central Prison.
“He was arrested by UAE officials on Sept 18 after arriving from Amsterdam,” the source said, according to Harian Metro.
The source told the news portal that authorities found a stash of drugs in his luggage upon inspection.
“He was detained for two weeks at the airport detention centre for further investigation.
“After two weeks, the CEO was transferred to the Al-Alweer Central Prison to serve his sentence,” the source said.
