KUALA LUMPUR – Public Service Department (JPA) director-general Datuk Seri Zainal Rahim Seman said once a student benefiting from JPA bursary is found issuing remarks criticizing the government which would dent the country’s image through social media sites such as Facebook and blogs, the said benefit will be withdrawn and legal actions will be taken against the student.
He said during a telephone interview with Sin Chew Daily that it was justifiable to withdraw the bursaries offered to such students.
He said the facility had been extended to outstanding students to help them focus on their studies and not distribute inaccurate information detrimental to the government’s reputation.
“The government provides financial assistance to these students to allow them to focus on their studies to acquire knowledge and become professionals in future. Their mission is to concentrate on their studies. Why do they spread lies without supporting statistics to taint the government’s image?”
