TEMERLOH – Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi fired another salvo at a certain leader for treating Umno as a “guest house” to check in and out as he pleased.
In an apparent reference to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the Deputy Prime Minister said this person should have just sat quietly outside “the Umno house now that he is no longer paying the rent”.
“He was sacked from the party on Sept 26, 1969, and taken back during Tun Abdul Razak’s time. Then he left again on May 19, 2008, during Pak Lah’s time and then returned when Najib took over.
“Then he left again and now he’s trying to destroy our house,” he said at the opening of the Temerloh Umno meeting here Sunday.
“And it’s a big cane at that. So is it wrong if the grandchild runs away from the grandfather and when the cane is flung at the grandchild, he picks it up and throws it back at the grandfather?
“That is what the ‘deputy of the Umno house’ is doing now.
“If the grandfather can’t respect himself and love his grandchildren, then he shouldn’t return home. We also don’t want him back,” he said.
Although Dr Ahmad Zahid did not mention the name of the individual, he had recently been accused by the former premier of having RM230mil when he was in Umno Youth.
On Saturday, Dr Ahmad Zahid said he was open to any investigations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission which should also investigate the assets of “that person and his family”.
Dr Ahmad Zahid also told Umno members present to reject former leaders who are attacking the party.
He also said a former Umno figure had been given opportunities to contest in Temerloh and became an MP but left the party after he lost.
“This figure has failed us. Reject him if he tries to offer himself for election again,” said Dr Ahmad Zahid.
Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah was the Temerloh MP from 2008 to 2013 when he lost to PAS’ Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi in the last general election.
He quit Umno and joined PKR in 2015.
