THE Honda Jazz Hybrid was declared the 2017 Overall Car of the Year at the Malaysia Car of the Year (COTY) Awards 2017 in Kuala Lumpur today.
Honda and Mercedes-Benz were the biggest winners of the night’s event, each winning five awards in various categories.
Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI) chief executive officer Madani Sahari said the event was part of the run-up to the Malaysia Autoshow 2017, to be held from November 9 to 12 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park in Serdang.
“The winners of COTY 2017, along with several other models, will be on display for visitors to see and experience at the Malaysia Autoshow 2017,” he said, adding that the event was expected to attract up to 250,000 visitors.
The winners of tonight’s event also included other major car brands such as BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Kia, Mazda, Perodua, Porsche, Proton, Subaru and Toyota while the Tan Chong Group was recognised for its role in championing sustainable mobility.
The 16th Malaysia COTY also recognised individuals for their outstanding contributions to the country’s automotive industry.
The winners included Dr Zahari Husin, the managing director of Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd, who was named Automotive Man of the Year 2017 for his visionary leadership.
Present was International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed and his deputy, Ahmad Maslan.
