PETALING JAYA – PAS is willing to forgive Parti Pribumi Bersatu (Pribumi) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad if he repents and disassociates himself from DAP, says PAS’ Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki (pic).
In a statement on Thursday, Zuhdi, who is the party’s research director, said the PAS leadership was willing to forgive anyone including Dr Mahathir despite him having victimised the Islamist party when he was prime minister.
“The Kelantan emergency declaration, Memali tragedy, the opposing of the Syariah Criminal Code and the revocation of oil subsidy, among others. These were among the things done by Dr Mahathir that pressured us,” he said.
Zuhdi added that Pribumi’s relationship with DAP was responsible for sabotaging the relationship between Pribumi and PAS.
“The PAS president (Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang) had previously urged everyone to save Malaysia the PAS way, by returning to the Islamic way,” he said, adding that the behaviour of DAP and other like-minded parties are an obstacle to efforts to save the country.
He said that Dr Mahathir’s had fallen for DAP’s anti-Islamic ways while Pribumi president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was instead working towards maintaining a relationship with PAS.
“Efforts to redeem Islam as the solution to all the problems in this country will not succeed if DAP is involved,” he said.
Last week, Dr Mahathir said that Pribumi did not need to cooperate with PAS for the elections.
On Wednesday, however, he said the party was open to getting the Islamist party to join the opposition bloc.
