PETALING JAYA – Two New Generation Party (NewGen) leaders have quit the party.
According to NewGen secretary-general S. Gobi Krishnan, the resignations of party president Datuk Mohd Ezam Mohd Nor and deputy president Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan were effective July 1.
They had joined NewGen on March 16.
Khairuddin quit Umno in 2016 after which he became one of the founding members of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi). He however, resigned from Pribumi in October.
Mohd Ezam, who was previously a senator, was also a member of PKR and later Pribumi.
In a statement on Wednesday, Mohd Ezam said he had asked NewGen not to push ahead with plans to rename the party Parti Bebas Rasuah (PBR).
He said he had informed Gobi Krishnan not to pursue the matter as it had been two months since the party applied to the Registrar of Societies to change its name, however there has been no “positive indication” on the issue since then.
In the statement, he added that he would continue his fight against corruption through his non-governmental organisation called Hisbah Malaysia.
