PAKATAN HARAPAN (PH) is still pursuing the Registrar of Societies (RoS) over its status and will send a letter next week to enquire about the opposition pact’s position ahead of the general election.
PH secretary-general Saifuddin Abdullah said the letter will be sent after Bersatu submits its report to RoS by Monday.
“A day after that, the PH secretariat will send a letter to ask about our position because the two issues (highlighted by RoS) have been addressed so we will ask them on our status and wait for their reply,” Saifuddin told The Malaysian Insight today.
Saifuddin said when a PH delegation went to the Home Ministry’s office in November to discuss the registration delay, they were told that it was due to issues involving DAP and Bersatu.
RoS director-general Surayati Ibrahim had said then PH’s registration was pending because Bersatu had yet to hold an annual general meeting and DAP had yet to submit a full report on the re-election of its central committee members.
But these matters have been resolved, Saifuddin said today.
“DAP has held its re-election and also submitted a report, while Bersatu has held an AGM and is in the process of sending a report ,” he said.
DAP had its re-election for the party’s central executive committee at a special congress on November 12 while Bersatu held their AGM on December 30.
However, Saiduddin refused to elaborate on PH’s contingency plan if the coalition failed to obtain legal status before the 14th general election (GE14) which is due to be held by August.
“We have a Plan B but (it) will be revealed after we know what our status is.
“There are more than one idea as to what plan B is and how we execute plan B, which is about the logo. We have not decided on that,” he said.
He added the party leaders want to use only one logo to represent PH and that was why they were pushing hard for the registration to be approved.
“But if they don’t (register the coalition) what choice do we have? That’s where Plan B comes into play but what constitutes Plan B and how to execute it, that we have yet to decide.
“All of us are on the ame page on the point we want to use one logo,” said Saifuddin.
PH and Bersatu chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad had previously asked RoS to explain the delay in the coalition’s registration.
He said RoS has not responded since PH submitted its application for registration on July 24 last year.
He had also said the delay of PH’s registration would benefit Barisan Nasional.
