KUALA LUMPUR – A man with the “Datuk Seri” title claimed trial to four counts of hurting and injuring three People Volunteer Corps (Rela) volunteers at the Ampang Magistrates Court here today.
Liow Soon Hee, 29, pleaded not guilty to all charges handed down by Magistrate Mohamad Firdaus Sadina Ali.
The first charge was under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt to Lee Weng Poh, 27, at Tokong Kou Ong Yah, Jalan Merdeka in Kampung Baru Ampang on October 27.
The second charge was under Section 353 of the Penal Code for using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty.
He allegedly committed the offence against 19-year-old Melvin Cheong Mun Khai at Tokong Kou Ong Yah, Jalan Merdeka in Kampung Baru Ampang on October 27.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nadiah Malek Fauzie requested the court set bail at RM10,000 and RM5,000 with one surety for each charge respectively.

She also requested additional conditions that the accused surrender his passport, report to the police and refrain from contacting the victims or witnesses relating to the case.
The accused’s lawyer, Datuk Geetham Ram, argued that bailable offences should not have additional conditions such as surrendering passports.
The magistrate agreed that the accused should not disturb the witnesses and victims of the case and set bail at RM7,000 and RM4,000 with one surety each for the respective charges.
Liow was further charged separately under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt to 21-year-old Leong Jun Jie and Melvin Cheong Mun Khai at Tokong Kou Ong Yah, Jalan Merdeka in Kampung Baru Ampang on October 27.
The magistrate set bail at RM3,000 with one surety for each charge.
The court set December 14 for mention.

‘Datuk Seri’ in Rela assault case rearrested over drug offence
The “Datuk Seri” who was charged with assaulting three Rela personnel was rearrested after posting bail on Friday (Nov 3).
Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Shaharuddin Abdullah confirmed there was a warrant of arrest for Liow Soon Hee, 29, in relation to a drug case in 2014.
ACP Shaharuddin said that the man is expected to be remanded on Saturday (Nov 4) over the case that is being investigated under Section 15(1) of the of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
It is believed that the man was rearrested at the Ampang Court Complex shortly after he was charged with four counts of assault.
It is learnt that the businessman, who has a drug offence record, has also been identified as a person of interest in several other cases involving criminal syndicate activities.
The suspect was earlier arrested on Monday (Oct 30) after he presented himself at the Ampang Jaya police headquarters.
He is also being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission following a claim by Rela platoon leader Ho Hoong Keong that his three injured subordinates – Melvin Cheong Mun Khai, 19, Leong Jiun Jie, 21, and Lee Weng Poh, 27 – had lodged a police report over a RM10,000 “compensation” reportedly offered to them to withdraw the assault report.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim also confirmed that the suspect had tested positive for drugs when he was arrested on Monday.
The man allegedly beat up the three Rela members on duty when they asked for his car, that was blocking a road near a temple in Ampang, to be moved because he felt that they did not show him enough respect.
