KOTA KINABALU – A restaurant worker who wanted to take a personal loan from a bank to settle some debts found himself in twice the trouble when he was allegedly cheated by a fake bank agent.
The 25-year-old man had allegedly dealt with the fake agent, who went by the name of Lee, via WhatsApp and agreed to pay a sum of money for legal fees and a deposit equivalent to one month’s loan repayment.
Sandakan police chief Asst Comm Mohd Azhar Hamin said the victim first banked in RM580 into the suspect’s account and another RM440 on Jan 17.
He only realised that the loan was non-existent on Jan 21.
“The victim tried contacting the suspect but failed and he was also blocked by the suspect on Facebook,” he said.
ACP Azhar said the victim lost a total of RM1,020.
The victim later lodged a police report and the case is being investigated for cheating.
