DR M DOESN’T HAVE A CHANCE AGAINST ME – BOASTFUL KU NAN CONFIDENT OF RETAINING PUTRAJAYA SEAT IN GE14

KUALA LUMPUR – Umno’s Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor has no qualms facing off against former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in the 14th general elections.

Into his third term as Putrajaya MP, the Federal Territories minister was confident he would be voted back for the fourth term even if Dr Mahathir who is now with the Opposition were to challenge him for the seat.

“I believe the voters in Putrajaya are familiar with my performance there not as the Federal Territories minister but as a member of Parliament. We are like family there, I always try to address any of their problems,” he told reporters here today after launching the general assembly of MyPPP, a Barisan Nasional (BN) component party.

Popularly known as Ku Nan, the Umno secretary-general pointed out that he had been successful against all the Opposition candidates for the seat since 2004.

He pointed out that he won by a majority of 4,086 votes in the elections that year against then PKR treasurer Abdul Rahman Othman who only snared 540 votes.

He easily kept his seat, defeating PAS Mohamad Nor Mohamad by a 2,734 vote majority in Election 2008 when the BN lost its traditional two-thirds control of the Dewan Rakyat.

In Election 2013, Tengku Adnan raised his majority to 5,541 votes against former PAS vice-president Datuk Husam Musa.

There have been calls from Parti Amanah Negara for Dr Mahathir, former Umno president-turned-Pakatan Harapan pact chairman, to contest the next elections due by August 2018 in Putrajaya, which is also the federal government administrative capital.

Last week, Dr Mahathir finally remarked that he may consider standing for contest there.

“Yes, maybe I will stand in Putrajaya. You can tell them I may contest,” he reportedly said.
